A Postdoc position is available in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Münster (Münster, Germany) to study the mechanisms of neutrophil activation in mouse models of inflammation. One focus of the work will be defining which molecules are involved in E-selectin mediated neutrophil activation leading to integrin activation, in vitro and in vivo.

These studies will utilize various techniques in cell biology, molecular biology and biochemistry, including intravital microscopy studies on neutrophil rolling and adhesion in mice, flow cytometry, flow chamber assays, immunofluorescence microscopy, protein-protein interaction, retroviral transfection of bone marrow cells, and generation of bone marrow chimeras.

This position will be in the lab of a young Principle Investigator (PI). The PI is committed to the applicants career development by creating an exciting and dynamic research environment with state-of-the-art technologies, encouraging the preparation of research papers, the participation at (inter)national meetings, and the submission of independent grant applications. A technician will be assigned to the applicant for support in laboratory work. A weekly joint lab meeting with scientists from various laboratories and a good international network of collaborators provides a unique opportunity to exchange ideas. Candidates must have a Ph.D. and/or MD degree. There are no specific requirements with regard to the applicant’s technical skills, but he/she is expected to be highly motivated and willing to perform animal studies. Expertise in working with retroviral vectors would be a plus.

The position will be open in October 2011. The salary will be according to the German TV-L 13.
