PhD fellowships in pharmaceutical sciences,University of Copenhagen,Denmark

The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Copenhagen is pleased to announce that six PhD fellowships will be available from 1 April 2011 or as soon as possible thereafter. Applications are invited for the three-year fellowship from candidates that hold or expect to hold a master’s degree in a field relevant to the following projects:

1. MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY
Design and synthesis of epigenetic-drugs. Supervisors: Associate Professors Rasmus Prætorius Clausen and Jesper Kristensen, Department of Medicinal Chemistry (emails: rac@farma.ku.dk and jekr@farma.ku.dk).
The project is co-financed by the Danish Cancer Society and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and is affiliated to the research training programme, Drug Research Academy (mobility fellowship).

2. DRUG DELIVERY
Intestinal and renal transport mechanism of vigabatrin: A mechanism-based approach to identify drug interactions. Main supervisor: Associate Professor Carsten Uhd Nielsen, Department of Pharmaceutics and Analytical Chemistry, phone +45 3533 6472 (email: cun@farma.ku.dk).

3. METABOLIC SYNDROME/DRUG DELIVERY
Absorption of 2-oleoyl glyceryl ether in intestinal cells. Main supervisor: Professor Harald S. Hansen, Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy, phone +45 3533 6332 (email: hsh@farma.ku.dk).

4. OPTIMAL DRUG THERAPY
Long term use of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT). Main supervisor: Professor Lona L. Christrup, Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy, phone +45 3533 6347 (email: llc@farma.ku.dk).
The applicant for this project must speak Danish fluently.

5. MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY
Antibacterial peptides as novel delivery vehicles for genetic antibiotics. Main supervisor: Associate Professor Henrik Franzyk, Department of Medicinal Chemistry, phone +45 3533 6255 (email: hf@farma.ku.dk).

6. DRUG DELIVERY
A mechanistic approach to optimize membrane interaction of antimicrobial peptides. Main supervisor: Associate Professor Hanne Mørck Nielsen, Department of Pharmaceutics and Analytical Chemistry, phone +45 3533 6346 (email: hmn@farma.ku.dk).
The project is co-financed by DANCARD and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The PhD fellowships are to be completed in accordance with the Ministerial order on the PhD programme at the universities (PhD order) from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and the Regulations and guidelines for the conferment of the PhD degree by the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The terms of employment are stated in the agreement between The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and the Ministry of Finance.
