The Brain Tumor Research Program at the University of Freiburg is recruiting a
Postdoctoral Scientist
Department of Neurosurgery, Neurocenter, Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg, University of Freiburg School of Medicine
The Brain Tumor Research Program at the University of Freiburg is recruiting an exceptional and highly motivated Postdoctoral Scientist for the research group of the Professor for Neuro-oncology (Markus Bredel, MD PhD), addressing the molecular biology, molecular genetics and resistance to therapy of human brain tumors. We are looking for outstanding candidates with proven research credentials to expand on our recently published projects (NEJM: published online first, Dec 22, 2010; JAMA 302: 276-89, 2009; JAMA 302: 261-275, 2009).
Successful candidates will pursue research projects in areas that include:
1. Functional analysis of tumor suppressor genes and oncogenes using viral and non-viral gene delivery to identify transforming signaling pathway changes in brain tumors.
2. Identification and characterization of cancer stem cells derived from brain tumor samples and cell lines.
3. Brain tumor animal models.
We are interested in candidates with extensive molecular biology/genetics experience, including recombinant DNA technology, retroviral/lentiviral gene transfection and knockdown, cancer stem cell isolation/genetic modification, protein analyses, genotyping, primary tumor cell culture, and animal models. Candidates are expected to hold a doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in cancer biology/genetics and should have a strong desire to work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.
Our group is part of the Translational Cancer Research Center Freiburg, one of only eight members of the German Consortium of Translational Cancer Research. Focusing on neuroscience, oncology, and functional genetics research, the University of Freiburg has one of the most extensive Brain Tumor Programs in Europe. The dynamic and integrative Brain Tumor Research Program is a leader in genomics analysis of human brain tumors. In addition to an exciting work environment and location in one of the most desired living spaces in Europe, we also offer a competitive salary and benefits package.
Interested candidates should submit via e-mail an electronic copy of their curriculum vitae, a cover letter describing their past research experience, along with complete contact information for at least three references to:
