The Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre (BiK-F) is a new interdisciplinary institute with the mission to carry out internationally outstanding research on the interactions of biodiversity and climate change on the organism level. It has been founded by the Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung, the Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main, and other partners. The Centre is funded by the Federal State of Hesse through its Initiative for the Development of Scientific and Economic Excellence (LOEWE). It provides a new, dynamic research environment that integrates a variety of disciplines from both natural and social sciences. Postdoctoral researcher in “Community or Landscape Ecology”

The successful applicant will investigate the impact of climatic factors and/or land-use on vertebrates at the community and/or landscape scale. The conceptual focus will be on innovative modern approaches in community or landscape ecology, for example movement ecology, analyses of ecological interaction networks or the study of relationships between biodiversity, ecosystem functions and ecosystem services. Methods should include empirical studies in the field and advanced statistical analysis of data. The taxonomic focus should be on birds or large mammals.
The applicant should hold a Ph.D. in ecology or a related field, and have a solid background in animal behaviour and ecology, community ecology or landscape ecology. He or she should have experience in field work and advanced statistical analyses and have an interest in birds or large mammals. He or she is expected to develop joint research projects, to write proposals to funding agencies, to engage in the joint supervision of Ph.D. and masters students and to contribute to teaching. A solid publication record, good written and oral communication skills, and the willingness to develop collaborations within the working group and the Centre as a whole are required.
