Aim of the thesis is to induce targeted complex DNA lesions into the human genome employing short-range radiation i.e. Auger electron emitting radionuclides. With respect to the inherent cellular radiosensitivity the induced initial complex DNA lesions as well as the repair of the lesions shall be characterized in detail. Additionally, the overall cyto- and genotoxic effects in the targeted cells shall be intensively investigated. Different carrier will be used to incorporate the Auger Emitter into the DNA or locate them specifically in the close vicinity of the DNA/Chromatin.
We are seeking for a highly motivated candidate with a strong interest in radiation biology. The candidate shall have a very good background in molecular and cell biology (MSc or BSc in life sciences). Experience in human cell culture is of advantage. The lab is located in a radiation control area (Strahlenschutz Kontrollbereich) and has a long-time experience in handling open radionuclides. It is required to work extensively with the radionuclides I-123 and I-125. The grant will be about 1,350.-- € per month.
