PhD student position in Medical-Biological Research,University of Basel,Swiss

We are seeking for a motivated PhD student to join our research group. We are located in the laboratories of the Institute for Pathology of the University Hospital Basel. Our research focuses on the analysis of the development and evolution of genomic aberrations in human solid tumors. In particular, we are studying the clonal composition of tumor populations and are interested in the genomic mechanisms that lead to metastasis and to therapy resistance.

Qualifications: The successful PhD candidate holds a degree in biological sciences that qualifies him/her to enter the PhD program of the University of Basel. We expect good knowledge in genetics, cell and molecular biology and tumor biology. Practical experience is desired. The candidate should have strong interest in bioinformatic analysis, including analysis of microarrays and of next generation sequencing data. Further, good English skills are a prerequisite.

We offer a very exciting position in the clinically relevant area of personalized medicine. This interdisciplinary project will involve several techniques, such as microarray analysis, FACS, deep sequencing, but also classic molecular biology and cell culture. The PhD student will get accurate supervision by experienced molecular biologists and clinical pathologists. The salary for this position will be in accordance with the regulations of the SNF. The project is funded for three years.
