PhD in weicher Materie und biologischer Phyisk (Friedrich-Hund-Platz 1, 37077 Göttingen)

The "Statistical Physics and Complex Systems Group" at the Institute
for Theoretical Physics of the Georg-August University of Goettingen
is offering several Phd positions in the following (or related)
research areas:

   * theory and simulation of biopolymer networks and bundles
   * simulation of dense granular fluids
   * jamming

The positions are embedded in the newly established Emmy Noether
Junior Research Group "Elasticity and Rheology of Amorphous Materials"
and the collaborative research center "Collective Behavior of Soft and
Biological Matter" (SFB937). For more information about our current
research interests, please see
http://www.theorie.physik.uni-goettingen.de/~heussinger

Payment will be according to the German TV-L. Possible starting dates
are November 2011 (or later). Applications are accepted at any time and
until suitable candidates have been found.

A successul candidate is expected to have basic skills in computer
programming (preferentially C++) and possibly experience with
Monte-Carlo or molecular-dynamics simulations. A sound knowledge of
theoretical physics, in particular classical and statistical
mechanics, is indispensable. Most important, however, is a high degree
of motivation to pursue creative and independent research.

Informal inquires and complete  applications (including a statement of
interests, a CV, and 2 references) should be sent, preferably via
email to
