The Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) is operating one of the first worldwide available combined whole body PET/MR imaging systems. The system is used by an interdisciplinary team of scientists in the Department of Positron Emission Tomography of the Institute of Radiopharmacy together with colleagues from the University Hospital Dresden. The potential of this new technology for offering diagnostic information superior or complementary to conventional PET or PET/CT is substantial. Evaluation of this technology will be one of the central tasks of our group in the next years.
Our scientific focus is establishment of quantitative combined functional PET/MR imaging in oncology, notably for improvement of radiation treatment planning and therapy response control. In order to achieve this goal, substantial methodological work regarding optimized quantitative imaging procedures and data evaluation strategies will be necessary.
In this context, the Department of Positron Emission Tomography at the Institute of Radiopharmacy of the HZDR is looking for a
PET/MRI physicist or engineer (PhD)
to join our group. The contract is initially limited to 3 years. The salary is according to German Public Service classification (TVöD).
Prerequisites:
- good or very good marks in exams, diploma, and PhD thesis
- solid knowledge of basic PET and MRI physics
- preferably experience in the field of medical PET or MR imaging
- ability to adopt quickly to the new field and the given tasks
- adequate programming skills and experience with numerical data evaluation packages such as MATLAB, R, or similar
- willingness to work in an interdisciplinary group of physicists, computer scientists, physicians, and biochemists
- ability to work independently and to develop innovative solutions including publication of results
Tasks:
- Development of new data evaluation procedures for analysis of combined PET/MR investigations in oncology
- Development of optimized data acquisition protocols for quantitative functional PET/MR imaging with a focus on either the PET or the MRI side, depending on area of expertise of the candidate
- Contributions to on-going multi-disciplinary research projects in the context of functional PET/MR imaging in oncology in close collaboration with the University Hospital Dresden
- Participate in radiation protection and quality control related tasks at the PET/MR system
