Technical Assistant / Engineer / Staff in Super-Resolution Light Microscopy (Berlin)

POSITION: To strengthen our efforts in building and maintaining a super-resolution light microscopy facility within the recently granted SFB 958 (‘Scaffolding of Membranes: Molecular Mechanisms and Cellular Function’) we are looking for a motivated technical assistant / engineer / staff to support us in applying novel super-resolution light microscopy methods (STORM/PALM, SIM, STED) to cell biological questions.  The position is initially for four years but can be prolonged. Envisioned starting date is July/Aug 2011.

CANDIDATE: We are looking for an enthusiastic person who combines a technical or scientific background with strong communication skills. The suitable candidate is expected to have practical experience in one or more of the following fields: Optics, light microscopy techniques (widefield, confocal, super-resolution) or image processing. Strong computer and software skills (IT) and good English knowledge are a must. Experience in cell biological sample preparation is a plus. He/she should have a degree in engineering/ (bio)physics/-informatics/biotechnology (FH, university of applied science), be willing to expand his/her knowledge in new microscopy techniques and be ready to work in a highly interdisciplinary (cell-/neurobiology, biochemistry, biophysics) environment.

SETTING: The candidate will be part of the young and interdisciplinary team of Dr. Jan Schmoranzer establishing and applying super-resolution technology in cell-/ neurobiology. The FU-Berlin (Campus Berlin-Dahlem or Mitte) and the SFB associated Institutions (Charité NeuroCure, Max Dellbrück Center) offer a cutting-edge research infrastructure, an international environment, and excellent working conditions, all inside the vibrant city of Berlin.

SALARY: According to the experience of the candidate (i.e. E10/E11).
