PhD in Structural and functional studies on tissue repair, aging and homeostasis,University of Cologne,Germany

The successful candidate will join a dynamic and enthusiastic research group ( www.eming.uni-koeln.de ) and will participate in the analysis of molecular mechanisms regulating skin injury, repair and homeostasis. In the particular project we are interested to understand how cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions control tissue growth and differentiation, and which are the signals that lead to deregulation of these processes during ageing and/or ageing-associated diseases such as impaired wound healing and cancer.  The group has active collaborations with global leaders in the area and the project offers exchange with interactive groups of the  Excellence Cluster  Cellular Stress Responses in Ageing-Associated Diseases  (www. CECAD) and the Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne ( www.zmmk.uni-koeln.de ).

Methoden:
Research involves the functional analysis of genetically modified mouse models.  State of the art technologies for molecular and cell biology are in place (FACS analysis, microarray analysis, live cell imaging, confocal microscopy, mouse genetics) or are accessible through Service Laboratories on the Campus.

Anfangsdatum: 1. August 2011

geschätzte Dauer: 3-4 Jahre

Bezahlung: E13 TVöD

Veröffentlichungen:
Applicants should be highly motivated and must have a master's or diploma degree in biology/biochemistry related subjects. Solid knowledge of basic molecular biological/biochemical methods (cloning, mutagenesis, immunoprecipitation, western blotting, etc.) and cell cultivation is essential. Experience in mouse work and first experience in mouse genetics as well as a background in  tumor biology and    immunology  is advantagous.
