The EMBL Hamburg Outstation offers an international and stimulating environment for research in molecular structural biology. The molecular and biochemistry laboratory is used for diverse research projects in structural biology. The lab is equipped for protein production, purification, crystallization and functional analysis. The laboratory technician will work in the group of Matthias Wilmanns. The focus of the group is on large protein complexes from various cell types. At the molecular level there are particular interests into the regulation of protein kinases, the regulation of transcription factors, structural proteins in the muscle, receptors for protein translocation, and host/pathogen interactions. Main tasks of the research technician are:
• To be involved in day-to-day lab management, including purchasing, equipment maintenance, lab safety, basic training.
• To cooperate with other members of the institute, involved in overall laboratory management, including new facilities for protein production and characterization for external visitors.
• To actively contribute in ongoing research projects under the supervision of scientists that are members of the Wilmanns group.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have a bachelor or master degree in a relevant field (biology or related disciplines). Working experience in molecular biology is essential. Previous experience with large scale protein expression and purification using ÄKTA systems will be considered advantageous. Project management experience, excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with other research teams is essential. Good knowledge of desktop software applications and fluency in English is mandatory, German language skills are desirable.
