Meteorologist, Physicist or Engineer - Experimental Boundary-Layer Meteorology and Turbulence (Tübingen),Germany

The Environmental-Physics group at the Centre for Applied Geo-Science, University of Tübingen, Germany, studies turbulent atmospheric flows using automatically operating unmanned airborne vehicles (UAV) and numerical models. Our main interests are the turbulent energy and momentum exchange between the heterogeneous earth surface and the lower atmosphere, the water cycle, and the interaction of turbulent flows with aircraft foils and ground-based structures like wind converters. We develop meteorological sensors (wind vector, humidity, temperature, etc.) for research UAV and data-analysis software for airborne measurements. Currently, we are looking for a

Meteorologist, Physicist or Engineer

with interest in conducting research in the fields of

Experimental Boundary-Layer Meteorology and Turbulence

The tasks include
* teaching bachelor and master students in exercise and laboratory courses
* performing own research and writing research proposals

The ideal candidate fulfils the following requirements:
* a PhD in atmospheric science or fluid mechanics
* experience in atmospheric and turbulence measurement technology
* experience with airborne measurements and UAV
* broad knowledge of boundary-layer meteorology and turbulence theory

The position is to be filled on 1 October, 2011, or later. The appointment will be for three years, an extension of the contract is possible. Work place is Tübingen. Salary will be according to the German public service (TV-L E13).

In case of equal qualification and experience physically challenged applicants are given preference. The University of Tübingen aims at increasing the share of women in research and teaching and encourage female scientists to apply.
