Biologie Chemie Informatik Pharmazie Physik (Doktorarbeit / Diplomarbeit): Next generation technologies in protein design and evolution

PhD  and Diploma projects in protein design and evolution are available in the group of Prof. Kirill Alexandrov at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB) in Brisbane, Australia starting in 2011-2012. We believe that many key biological questions can only be answered by novel technologies. We therefore in the process of developing a protein engineering platform combining in vitro gene and proteins synthesith with single molecule spectroscopic analysis on micro fluidic chips.  We apply this technology to construction  of artificial enzymatic and signaling cascades. We expect the candidate to  develop a range of novel protein-based sensors for cell biological, diagnostic and biotechnological applications.  Additional information about the project is available upon request.

The IMB was established 10 years ago to spearhead Australian interdisciplinary research in organismal, cellular, chemical and structural biology. It is located in the newly built complex on the campus of The University of Queensland in Brisbane together with 3 other research institutes and numerous research departments. IMB is exceptionally well equipped and funded and provide the vibrant research environment with more than 50 research groups.

We are seeking candidates with the background in molecular biology, biotechnology , boengenering, chemistry, biochemistry, or structural biology and strong interest in interdisciplinary research. The application for a PhD program at the IMB is a competitive process and the candidates should be sufficiently qualified to obtain the University fellowship.
