Job DescriptionThe project aims to characterize at the molecular level the function of specific proteins involved in autophagy and unveil their role in the biogenesis of autophagosomes, the hallmark of this pathway (Mari et al, J Cell Biol 2010, van der Vaart et al, Mol Biol Cell 2010, Nair et al, Cell 2011). The project will be part of a joined collaborative effort with the laboratory of Prof. Christian Ungermann (University of Osnabrueck, Germany) and yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae will be employed as a model organism. 

We offer: Training opportunities in yeast genetics, molecular cell biology, biochemistry, in vivo live-cell imaging techniques and immuno-electron microscopy. Sufficient lab space and state-of-the-art equipment for the realization of the project are available. The Department of Cell Biology is a dynamic institute with international and interactive research groups and world-class equipment. The working language is English. The Department is located in the scientific campus of the Utrecht University and therefore it has direct access to a large number of facilities and a unique scientific environment. Utrecht is beautiful city located in the center of the Netherlands, in close proximity of Amsterdam and its international airport. 

The PhD position is funded by the collaborative grant with the University of Osnabrück and will be paid according to their salary scales.

QualificationWe are seeking an outstanding and highly motivated candidate for a PhD study in the group of Fulvio Reggiori. Previous experience in biochemistry and/or fluorescence microscopy/live-cell imaging techniques is a plus.
