The University Children´s Hospital Mannheim, Medical Faculty Mannheim of the University of Heidelberg (Director: Prof. Dr. H. Schroten) in cooperation with the National Center for Tumor Diseases, Heidelberg, Department of Neurooncology (Director: Prof. Dr. W. Wick) is looking for a

postdoctoral fellow (m/f)

The position is available as soon as possible for initially 2 years with the possibility of extension. Closing date for application will be September 30th, 2011.

A main focus of her/his work will be the investigation of the pathogenesis of brain metastasis with a special focus on the blood-cerebrospinal fluid-barrier and blood-brain barrier. The interaction of tumor cells esp. neuroblastoma cells with brain microvascular endothelial cells and choroid plexus epithelial cells should be investigated in a modern laboratory using in vitro models of the blood-cerebrospinal fluid-barrier (see Wewer et al. J. Neuroinflamm. 2011, 8:51) and the blood-brain barrier.

Applicants should have the following skills:
-       a special interest in the field of (tumor)cell biology/ molecular biology/ Neurooncology and a special expertise regarding work with metastasis of tumor cells, cell culture work and molecular biology techniques.
-       experience in working in an internationally competitive scientific environment
-       an independent approach for research projects regarding pathogenesis of brain metastasis
-       willingness and expertise regarding the acquisition of research funds
-       a completed PhD/ MD
