PhD position in Neuroscience ,Innsbruck, Austria

We are interested in emotional processing with a particular focus on the role of neuropeptides. The project aims to determine the role of Neuropeptide Y in amygdala- and hippocampus-dependent emotional learning processes. We use multidisciplinary approaches including behavioral testing, stereotaxic injection of viral vectors (AAV) as well as molecular and neurobiochemical methods in a variety of transgenic mouse models. In addition whole cell patch clamp techniques in acute brain slice preparations will be used.

We are looking for a highly motivated and interested candidate, who should be interested in pursuing research to understand the role of neuropeptides in amygdala and hippocampus-dependent memory processes. A Master degree (or equivalent) in neuroscience, medicine, biology or related fields is required. Excellent communication skills in English are mandatory.

One or several of the following requirements is of advantage:
- Experience in animal models and behavioral testing;
- Experience in cellular electrophysiology;
- Experience in molecular and histochemical methods;

We offer an innovative, well-equipped and scientifically stimulating environment. The position is funded for three years and the successful candidate will be trained within the PhD program for neuroscience at the Medical University of Innsbruck. Applicants should apply with a curriculum vitae, summary of past research and the names and email addresses of 3 referees to ramon.tasan@i-med.ac.at or guenther.sperk@i-med.ac.at.
