Three Scientific Programmers (m/f, SAS2011 -16, -17, -18)
with a strong background in climate modelling, numerical mathematics, or computational science. Within the Director’s research group in the department “The Ocean in the Earth System”, the successful applicants will join a team that establishes, oper-ates, uses, and improves the pre-operational MiKlip central decadal prediction system.
SAS2011-16: His/her initial task will be to establish the software infrastructure for the ensemble prediction system. Later task comprise the implementation of improvements arising from other components in MiKlip, such as in assimilation and ensemble generation techniques or in process representation.
A Ph.D. in applied mathematics, meteorology, oceanography, physics, computational science or a related area is desired. Experience in the development, implementation and optimisation of coupled climate models and of scientific workflows on high-performance computing platforms is essential. Further essential skills are the ability and desire to work as part of a team to help maintain a robust and flexible source code.
SAS2011-17: His/her initial task will be to establish a flexible scientific workflow management system based on industry standards. Later tasks involve the adaptation of this system to the changing and growing requirements of the MiKlip central decadal prediction system.
A degree in applied mathematics, meteorology, oceanography, physics, computational science or a related area is required. Excellent programming skills in Java, C++, C, and scripting languages (preferred Python) as well as knowledge in Web Services and associated areas are essential. Additionally, experience with efficient I/O on high per-formance platforms is expected. Our development systems are Unix/Linux based.
SAS2011-18: His/her tasks will be the implementation and further development of post-processing routines, data dissemination, and the communication of results and uncertainties as part of a scientific workflow framework.
A degree in applied mathematics, meteorology, oceanography, physics, computational science or any related area is required for this position. Excellent programming skills in C++, scripting languages (preferred Python) and Web Services are essential. Pre-vious knowledge in data mining and advanced graphics software is of advantage. Our development systems are Unix/Linux based.
