Department of Effect-Directed Analysis invites applications for a
PhD student (f/m)
to work on:
“Characterisation and identification of chemosensitizers in
environmental samples to validate QSAR models “
Together with partitioning and diffusion active biological barriers,
such as P-gp efflux transporters, play a decisive role for the
accumulation of chemicals in cells. These efflux transporters may be
affected by chemosensitizers which may enhance the bioavailability of
other toxicants in organisms. In the present project effect-directed
analysis applying sub-cellular in vitro assays together with
fractionation and chemical analysis shall be used to identify
chemosensitizers in typical environmental samples such as waters and
sediments. Realistic exposure conditions shall be simulated applying
bioaccessibility-directed extraction and partition-based dosing
techniques.
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who is well educated
in analytical and environmental chemistry and (eco)toxicology and is
enthusiastic to integrate both experiences in an interdisciplinary
work. Practical skills in effect testing, the work with cellular and
sub-cellular biological systems, chromatography (HPLC and GC) and
mass spectrometry as well as in modelling and computer work are very
much appreciated. We presume a specific interest in questions related
to environmental pollution and its effects, the readiness for
interdisciplinary and international collaboration and the capability
of working independently.
