Doktorand zum Thema Development of composite microfilaments (Aachen)

DWI at the RWTH is an institute where research and application are naturally (physi-cally) intertwined (knotted). To take part in the ongoing activity requires curiosity and communication. A multidisciplinary team is looking for creative Master/Diploma stu-dent able to contribute in the development of composite microfilaments. The project idea is inspired from gecko feats which allow the reptile to reversibly adhere and walk on the ceiling in combination with the self-cleaning properties that keep the leaves clean.
To translate this idea into synthetic material, the student will be involved in the preparation of bundles of soft microfilament wherein the mechanical stabilities will be tailored with selected polymer materials. The target fiber construct should be mechanically stable to resist bending while soft enough to provide good contact to dry or wet surfaces (like tooth).
The applicant will work in close collaboration with textile technologists.
The ideal candidate should have experience in textile technology and good skills in handling of micro fibers. German or at least fluent English is also required. The work will be supervised by Dr. Ahmed Mourran and Ing.(grad.) Dagmar Ganssauge and may lead to a PhD position.
Please submit your complete electronic application (cover letter, CV, copy of academic rec-ords, references).
