Research Associate at The Leibniz Institut of Ecological and Regional Development

The Leibniz Institut of Ecological and Regional Development invites applications for the following position from 01.11.2011 to 28.02.2014:
Research Associate (m/f)

in the project
„Networking Intelligent Cities for Energy Efficiency - NICE“

funded by the European Commission in the 7th Framework Research Programme.
Part time (50% - 20 hours / week)

The Green Digital Charter, initiated by the city network Eurocities, aims to focus the development and use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in cities on enhancing energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Signatories of the Charter commit themselves to developing and implementing corresponding local strategies. The NICE project supports this process through research, evaluation and knowledge transfer.

Tasks:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the analysis and appraisal of local strategies and instruments for implementing the Green Digital Charter, and for contributions to the realisation of knowledge transfer activities. This includes identifying local actor constellations and –perspectives, developing qualitative and quantitative indicators for Europe-wide monitoring, guidance documents for cities and local stakeholders, as well as decision support tools. Project work will be confirmed with the possibility acquiring a doctoral degree.

Requirements:
Candidates must have a university degree (diploma or masters) e. g. in urban studies, political sciences, sociology, spatial planning or geography, and several years of professional experience in implementation and evaluation research at the local level (policy analysis, qualitative social research), as well as excellent proficiency in English, both written and spoken. They are also expected to have a sound knowledge of the relevant policy domains (local energy efficiency, climate change mitigation and/or ICT applications) and of concepts for transitions and socio-technical system transformation – ideally documented by scientific publications. Moreover, knowledge of indicator development, communication skills with various actors and organisational talent would be an asset.

We promote equal opportunities. Women and persons with disabilities are therefore especially encouraged to apply.
