PhD-student position, Institute of Physiology 1, University of Bonn, Germany

The successful applicant will work in optogenetics, a technology taking advantage of light sensitive proteins for the electrical manipulation of cells and organs. The lab of Prof. Sasse has recently applied this technology to stimulate cardiomyocytes in the culture dish and in the beating heart of mice (Bruegmann T et al., Nature Methods 2010;7:897-900). Our aim is to extend these studies to other cell types and organs and to manipulate the membrane potential and intracellular signaling cascades.

We are searching for a highly motivated, team-oriented graduate student with a strong interest in cellular and integrative physiology. Previous experience with electrophysiological and/or imaging techniques is advantageous. Candidates should hold a diploma or a master’s degree in biology, pharmacy, or a related subject.

The PhD student position will be integrated into the structured PhD Program of the Medical Faculty. The successful applicant will be trained in a broad range of molecular-, cell biological and physiological techniques. The laboratories are very well equipped and integrated into an excellent scientific environment.
