Meteorologist or Physicist - Experimental Boundary-Layer Meteorology and Turbulence ,University of Tübingen, Germany

The Environmental-Physics group at the Centre for Applied Geo-Science, University of Tübingen, Germany, studies turbulent atmospheric flows using airborne measurement systems and numerical models. Our main interests are the turbulent energy and momentum exchange between the heterogeneous earth surface and the lower atmosphere, the water cycle, wind farming, and the interaction of turbulent flows with aircraft foils and ground-based structures like wind converters. We develop meteorological sensors (wind vector, humidity, temperature, etc.) for research UAV and data-analysis software for airborne measurements. Currently, we are looking for a

Meteorologist or Physicist

with interest in conducting research in the fields of

Experimental Boundary-Layer Meteorology and Turbulence

The tasks include
• analysis of airborne measurements and other high-resolution data sets
• reporting in the framework of a DFG (German Science Foundation) funded research project
• scientific co-operation (discussion, data exchange, joint publications) with project partners, focused on Large-Eddy Simulation, ground-based in-situ measurements and remote sensing, and foot-print models.

Candidates have to fulfil the following minimum requirements:
• a master / diploma in atmospheric science or similar
• knowledge of atmospheric physics, turbulence theory, boundary-layer meteorology
• profound experience with numerical data analysis and scientific programming (e.g. C, Fortran)
• able to discuss and present scientific subjects in English, fluently

The position can be filled immediately, we expect applications as soon as possible. The first employment will be for 11 month only, but an extension of the contract up to four years in total is likely. Work place is Tübingen. Salary will be according to the German public service (50 % of TV-L E13 with a good chance to increase after the first 11 month). During the second phase of the employment the candidate will be given the opportunity to write a PhD thesis.
In case of equal qualification and experience physically challenged applicants are given preference. The University of Tübingen aims at increasing the share of women in research and teaching and encourage female scientists to apply.

Please send your application (including application letter, statement of research interests, CV, certificates) referring to announcement code 'enphy-2011-3' by email ( one PDF file only ) to:
