In the research studio titled ‚Tiny Heart Catheter Pump with Air Propulsion (Assistance of Temporary Cardiac Failure)‘ a PhD or Post Doctoral position (both options possible) is available that will focus mainly on the mechanical design and fluid dynamics aspects of the project. Aim is the development and optimization of a miniature pneumatically operated heart catheter pump based on an existing prototype. The successful candidate will mainly work on the design of the device, optimization and miniaturization of the prototype by applying both computational simulation and experimental testing.
Requirements: Candidates should possess a Masters or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering and have experience in Computer Aided Design and Computational Fluid Dynamics. Experience with the software package ANSYS CFX will be considered favorably.
The interdisciplinary project is a cooperation between the Vienna University of Technology (Prof. Margit Gfoehler, Rehabilitation engineering) and the Vienna Medical University (Prof. Werner Mohl, Cardiothoracic surgery). The position will start November 1, 2011 and is limited to 2 years. Salary according to standard of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF).
Interested candidates should send their application in English including a complete CV and an accompanying letter detailing the candidate's motivations, his or her previous experience, and relevant skills, preferably by email to: margit.gfoehler@tuwien.ac.at.
