Applicants are invited for a PhD position at the MR Centre of Excellence (Center for Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering) at the Medical University of Vienna under the direction of Dr. Martin Meyerspeer and Prof. Ewald Moser.
The MR Centre of Excellence operates two 3 Tesla MR scanners (Siemens Tim Trio, Bruker MedSpec) and a 7 Tesla scanner (Siemens) and has access to the facilities (mechanical and electronics workshops) of the Center for Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering.
The successful candidate should develop and test devices to work within a magnetic resonance scanner for human applications. This involves devices for stimulation of skeletal muscle (ergometers, electrical stimulation, sensors) for applications in metabolic research, as well as testing medical equipment (e.g. pacemakers, insulin pumps, stents) for compatibility with ultra-high field MR systems. This will be complemented by development of compatible MR sequences.
We are looking for candidates with enthusiasm for magnetic resonance with the physicist's/engineer's perspective of view and a strong motivation to work hands-on with the hardware of an MR system and the above-mentioned devices.
The applicant should have a master (or comparable) degree in physics, electrical engineering, or in a related field.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
• Programming experience with C++, Matlab, and/or Python
• Familiarity with Linux will be an advantage
The successful candidate will join a friendly and interdisciplinary research team of physicists, mathematicians, statisticians, physicians, psychologists, and neuroscientists. The working languages in the laboratory are German and English, knowledge of German is not required but would be beneficial.
