PhD Position (E13/2) (Bonn)

UNIVERSITÄTSKLINIKUM BONN
    - ANSTALT DES ÖFFENTLICHEN RECHTS -
Institute of Reconstructive Neurobiology
(Head: Prof. Dr. O. Brüstle)

We announce the availability of a

PhD Position (E13/2)

in the field of neural differentiation at the Institute of Reconstructive Neurobiology (Director: Prof. O. Brüstle).

The candidate will join the newly established multicenter project StemCellFactory (www.stemcellfactory.de) to develop new approaches for the derivation of neural cell types from human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). Interfacing fundamental stem cell biology and translational research, this project will employ developmental mechanisms of stem cell differentiation to develop standardized protocols enabling industry-scale automated production of patient-specific neurons and glia for disease modeling and compound screening.

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, team-oriented graduate, capable of independent working with a strong interest in neurobiology, stem cell research, biotechnology and disease modeling. Experience with cell culture techniques, microscopy or molecular biology techniques is advantageous. Candidates should hold a diploma or a master’s degree in biology, molecular biomedicine, biotechnology, or a related subject.

We offer comprehensive training in an innovative field of science, a highly stimulating environment and state-of-the-art laboratories featuring the latest cell reprogramming, neural differentiation and bioengineering technologies.

The Institute of Reconstructive Neurobiology is affiliated with LIFE&BRAIN, a research and development platform located on the University of Bonn biomedical campus. LIFE&BRAIN features both academic institutions and commercial units, which work together under one roof to develop novel strategies for the diagnosis and therapy of nervous system disorders.

Salary will be according to the German salary scale TV-L E13 (50%). The University of Bonn is an equal opportunity employer. Preference will be given to suitably qualified female applicants or handicapped people, all other considerations being equal.
