The University Medical Center Mannheim is operating as a maximum service general hospital with a broad spectrum of diagnostic and therapeutic resources. Postdoctoral Scientists (f/m)
Both positions are available in full time from January 1st, 2012 to December 31st, 2013 with the possibility of extension. Closing date for application will be November 30th, 2011.

Description of duties:
The clinical cooperation unit “Molecular Oncology of Solid Tumors” is offering 2 positions for highly motivated postdoctoral scientists, to join our interdisciplinary translational research team at the DKFZ (German Cancer Research Center) in Heidelberg. Within this position, you will work on projects addressing, but not being limited to, the role of microRNAs, tumor cell-stroma interactions, specific metastasis-related genes and tumor suppressor genes in the metastasis of solid tumors, including colorectal or lung cancer. The position will also explore viral aspects in solid cancers. Furthermore, molecular markers of response and resistance towards novel molecular targeted therapies are in the center of our research interests. Our methodology includes the whole spectrum of molecular and cellular biology, virology, proteolysis, transcription and signal transduction, tumor banking, prognostic studies, diverse in vivo models relevant for translational research, and high-through!
 put techniques. One of the positions will explicitely have to conduct advanced molecular microscopy techniques and therefore, for one of the positions, experience and interest in biotechnology would be highly beneficial.

Desired qualifications:
       Doctoral degree (PhD or MD/PhD) in molecular biology, cancer biology, virology, and biotechnology
       Excellent writing and communication skills as evidenced by publications and fluency in English, preferably also German
       Experience in molecular and cellular methods, preferably also in large-throughput techniques such as gene expression profiling, sequencing, epigenetics, etc. For one position, experience in biotechnology or medical physics is of advantage
       Experience in national and/ or international grant applications would be appreciated
       Strong interest in metastasis, translational research, and biotechnology
