Senior scientist: Spatial vulnerability and risk assessment (f/m)
full time position with 40 hours a week
The position
Your overall task is to spatially assess the vulnerability and risk of cities and regions using GIS, statistical methods and other tools. Thematic areas are natural hazards and climate change. Research is dealing with the conceptual development and programming of vulnerability and risk assessment models on multiple spatial scales. The tools are set up and tested in international case studies. You are a member of various research teams with both contributions to and coordination of interdisciplinary research projects.
Your contract is supposed to start in September 2011 and to end in August 2014; prolongation could be possible (duration of employment according to the German Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz). It is a full time position with 40 hours a week. Salary is based on the general accord of the German Laender (TV-L) and is financed from institutional budget.
Your competences
A doctor's degree in earth system sciences or comparable education with very good to excellent grade together with an expertise in geoinformatics is requested. Research experience should regard to GIS-based modelling with according programming techniques. You have already published some scientific papers. Your English skills are excellent; your German skills will reach a proficient level within the first two years.
