Numerical Modeling of the Locomotion of Microorganisms (Berlin)

TECHNISCHE UNIVERSIT¨AT BERLIN
Institute for Theoretical Physics, AG Stark
Statistical Physics of Soft Matter and Biological Systems

OPENING FOR A POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW:
NUMERICAL MODELING OF THE LOCOMOTION OF MICROORGANISMS

START: February 1, 2012 or later
DURATION: one year (extension to two years is planned)
SALARY: 100% TV-L E13
CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATION: December 31, 2011

DESCRIPTION: At the Institute for Theoretical Physics of Berlin Technical University, we are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow for a project funded by the German Science
Foundation (DFG). The project deals with the African Trypanosome which is a parasite that causes the sleeping sickness. In the project the locomotion of an African Trypanosome in microchannels should be modeled and investigated using the method of multi-particle collision
dynamics. The work is done in collaboration with experimental groups in Basel and W¨urzburg.

REQUIREMENTS: You should hold a PhD in physics and be familiar with numerical modeling and methods of statistical physics applied to soft condensed matter or biological physics. Previous knowledge in the method of multi-particle collision dynamics would be helpful.

THE POSITION is available starting from February 1st, 2012 for a duration of 1 year, an extension to two years is planned.

FOR APPLICATION, please send a full CV, copies of certificates, and a list of publications to the email address indicated below, and arrange for two letters of recommendation. To support gender equality, applications from women with the respective qualifications are explicitly desired.
