Doctoral studentship position in University of Lübeck,Germany

The University of Lübeck,Germany is a modern Life-Science University with seven academic programs in-cluding Medicine, Informatics, Medical Informatics, Molecular Life Science, Infection Biology, Mathematics in Medicine and Life Science and Medical Engineering.

Within the medical section, the Institute for Systemic Inflammation Research (ISEF), (Director: Prof. Dr. med. Jörg Köhl), invites applications from highly motivated candidates for two:
Doctoral Student positions
The initial appointment will be for 2 years starting November 1, 2012. Continued employment fol-lowing the fixed term is possible.

The first position is integrated into the research training group 1727 (GRK 1727): “Modulation of autoimmunity” (www.grk1727.uni-luebeck.de/). The focus of this project is on the mechanisms un-derlying the development of the inflammatory response in autoimmune blistering diseases of the skin. Recently, our laboratory identified new mechanisms that drive and control such inflammation (Karsten et al. Nat. Med. 2012). The second position is integrated into a DFG-funded project dealing with the regulation of intestinal tolerance and inflammation by the complement system. More, specifically the project focuses on the cross-talk between complement and different toll-like recep-tors (Hawlisch et al. Immunity 2005, Weaver EJI 2010). The project is designed to delineate the molecular mechanisms underlying this cross-talk and its impact on intestinal tolerance and inflam-mation.

Position requirements include a diploma or masters degree in biology, biochemistry or equivalent. Preference will be given to candidates experienced in isolation and purification of immune cells, their phenotypical characterization by flow cytometry and experimental disease models.

The salary for the two positions will be up to 65% off a full position on TV-L13. Applications of women are strongly encouraged. Handicapped candidates with equivalent qualifications will be given preference.

Please submit your applications including informative documents (motivation letter, CV, list of pub-lications (if available), and 2 references)) by September 15, 2012 to:
