Two Ph.D. (Doktorarbeit) projects are being offered in the field of atomic layer deposition (ALD). Diplomarbeit/Master projects are also available. This collaborative project between USF and Novellus, Inc., a major semiconductor manufacturing equipment supplier, is funded through the NSF-ENG/GOALI program. The focus of the projects centers around the investigation of ALD-based nanolaminates and the electronic structure of ALD dipole layers and interfaces. The primary focus of this project is applications of ALD layers in advanced solar cells designs. Further applications of ALD are in advanced electronic circuits, optoelectronic devices, and MEMS. The preparative and analytical techniques to be used in this project include in-situ atomic layer deposition, photoemission and inverse photoemission spectroscopy, as well as device fabrication methods and thin film investigative techniques such as AFM, TEM, FIB/SEM etc... Successful applicants are self-motivated individuals with di
ploma or masters degrees in chemistry, physics or engineering disciplines. They have the ability to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team of engineers, chemists and physicists. Participating students will have an opportunity to visit Novellus for collaborative experiments/projects. The positions are also open to University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule) graduates in science and engineering disciplines.
The University of South Florida is one of the top public US research universities serving over 47,000 students. It is located in Tampa, on the West Coast of Florida.
